Legendary reporter Brad Watson to leave WFAA after 34 years

Well respected reporter and anchorman Brad Watson of WFAA Channel 8 (ABC) announced tonight he was leaving the station for a job in the public sector. Considering what a transient career field broadcast news can be, it's nothing short of amazing when a personality remains with a station in a top 10 market for 34 years.

Watson, 59, has also been the host of Inside Texas Politics and has interviewed everyone from local mayors to the current President of the United States.

The new gig for Watson will see him with energy provider Luminant serving as their director of communications. It should be a unique twist for the legendary reporter to be on the other side of the camera and microphones answering questions instead of asking them.

This new chapter in Watson's career is one that came looking for him instead of him looking for a new role. Allan Koenig, the former assignments editor at WFAA, is already working at Luminant and pursued Watson for the new role. After discussing the role with Luminant executives and his family, he made the decision in recent days that he would embrace this new opportunity.

The last day for Watson will be sometime around April 15.
