Pokemon in Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Wii U-slide0

Pokémon have figured into the Super Smash Bros. series for a while but the upcoming Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will feature Legendary Pokémon too as revealed in Tuesday's Nintendo Direct broadcast. Director Masahiro Sakurai also confirmed all the Pokémon that players will be able to summon with Pokéballs.

Rare and Legendary Pokémon can only be summoned with the Master Pokéball in Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

The example given during the broadcast was summoning Arceus who can take out opponents in mid-air with a heavy Meteor Smash attack. However a number of Pokémon were confirmed to be making appearances including Meowth, Electrode, Eevee, Staryu, Metagross, Fennekin, Meloetta, Gogoat, Entei, Deoxys, Palkia, Kyurem, Victini, Keldeo and Xerneas.

You can check out in-game images of all of them in the slideshow gallery.

These summoned Pokémon will join the newly playable Pokémon Charizard and Greninja to round out the roster from the ultra-popular Nintendo 3DS role-playing series.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS is due out this while the Wii U version will not be ready until later this winter.
