Legendary Cuban jazz trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, who will headline Day 2 of the Music Under the Canopy Jazz Festival in Des Moines in early August, will perform at Terrible's Lakeside Casino in Osceola on July 17 at 7:30 p.m. The world famous trumpeter and composer has won ten Grammy Awards, six Billboard Awards, and an Emmy Award, and he was the 2013 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient. Sandoval was a protégé and colleague of the great Dizzy Gillespie for years, and their relationship was chronicled in the 2014 book Dizzy Gillespie: The Man Who Changed My Life. Sandoval was also the subject of the 2000 HBO movie For Love or Country. Besides Gillespie, Sandoval has performed and/or recorded with the likes of Frank Sinatra, Stan Getz, Johnny Mathis, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart, Josh Groban and Alicia Keys, the Boston Pops, Justin Timberlake, Tony Bennett, Celine Dion and Patti LaBelle. Sandoval's last three albums have shown that he is not just a jazz trumpeter. Un Siglo de Pasion, Sandoval's Tribute to the Fuente Family, won a Latin Grammy for "Best Traditional Tropical Album" in 2013. Tango Como Yo Te Siento, which Sandoval also produced and directed, won a 2012 Latin Grammy for "Best Tango Album". Dear Diz (Every Day I Think of You), Sandoval's tribute to his mentor, won the 2013 Grammy for "Best Large Jazz Ensemble". Tickets for Sandoval's show at the casino's outdoor theater are $15 for general admission and $25 for tiered seating. You must be 21 or older to attend.
