To devotees of rock and roll trivia Terry Reid might be best known as the answer to the following: Who turned down Jimmy Page's invitation to be the lead singer in The New Yardbirds, who shortly thereafter were to be renamed Led Zeppelin?
The English singer /songwriter/guitarist will be appearing at The Turning Point in Piermont, NY on Saturday, October 5th. He will be backed by the band The Cosmic American Derelicts.
After getting his start in the mid '60s band Peter Jay and The Jaywalkers, Reid went solo and was signed by hit-making manager /producer Mickie Most. He fronted a power trio on his early recordings and toured with the Rolling Stones and Cream. His compositions have been covered by The Hollies ( he has collaborated with Graham Nash on more than one occasion ), Marianne Faithfull and more recently The Raconteurs and Rumer.
Reid has at points been referred to as 'Superlungs' because of his powerful vocal abilities, as well as having covered the Donovan song of the same name. His classic 1976 album Seed of Memory (produced by Nash) was an FM radio staple and its title track is always a live performance favorite.
His songs have been featured in the films The Devil's Rejects and Up in the Air.
Shows at 7:30 and 10:00
