GHOST HUNTERS TO HAUNT THE USS SALEM
Paranormal Legend Trip to Quincy Landmark Will Raise Goosebumps As Well As Money to Benefit This Historic Haunt
QUINCY, MA—Some of New England’s best-known paranormal personalities will board the USS Salem on Saturday, August 31, as paranormal events company Legend Trips presents “Dead in the Water 2013.”
On hand for the event will be Jeff Belanger, host of TV’s 30 Odd Minutes, noted author and the writer/researcher for Travel Channel’s Ghost Adventures; Tim Weisberg, author and Spooky Southcoast host; author Andrew Lake, also of 30 Odd Minutes; Matt Moniz of Spooky Southcoast radio and 30 Odd Minutes; Matt Costa of Spooky Southcoast; and Spirit Mediums Tiffany Rice and Stephanie Burke, hosts of the Spirit Connections television program.
Legend Trips, a joint venture between Ghostvillage.com and the Spooky Southcoast radio program, which helps raise money for historic haunted locations. To date, they have raised more than $10,000 for the places where they hold their events.
“This is a great way for the paranormal community to give back,” said Belanger. “As paranormal investigators, we have an appreciation for history and for the value of having access to a landmark like the USS Salem.”
Tickets are $99. The event will feature dinner, lectures and hours of guided investigation throughout the haunted ship. It will run from 6:30 p.m. until 2 a.m., and attendees have the option of renting a bunk on the ship for the night for an additional $30 per person.
Built between 1945 and 1949 in Quincy, the USS Salem never saw combat but was instrumental during the Cold War at keeping the Soviets at bay. One of just three Des Moines-class heavy cruisers ever built, she was the last all-gun heavy cruiser to enter commission.
Decommissioned in 1959, the USS Salem returned to its birthplace of Quincy in 1994 and has become a part of the United States Naval Shipbuilding Museum. It has also become one of New England’s most visited haunts, and was included in a season five episode of SyFy’s Ghost Hunters.
Nearly everyone who has investigated the Salem has returned with some kind of experience and numerous examples of Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), but this is also one location where ghosts appear to be seen as much as heard. Apparitions are reported throughout the ship. Women are spotted in the birthing room, with frequent EVP clips screaming for someone to “Get it out!” Then there’s the ghost in the machine (shop). No matter where you go throughout the 717-foot long ship, there’s a report of some kind of activity.
Tickets are available exclusively through www.legendtrips.com and must be purchased in advance.
