From a musical based on the "Legally Blonde" movies to a cartoon movie about planes to the annual festival honoring W.C. Handy, Huntsville is full of great entertainment for the week of July 20-26, 2014. Here is a look at the week ahead in Huntsville.
LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL is a musical play based on the "Legally Blonde" series of movies. Performances will be held in the VBC Playhouse, sponsored by Lyrique Music Productions. Performances will be on Friday, July 25, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
W.C. HANDY MUSIC FESTIVAL is an annual music festival in Downtown Florence honoring the legacy of W.C. Handy, father of the blues and the writer of "The St. Louis Blues". The festival runs through July 27th.
PLANES: FIRE AND RESCUE is a cartoon movie featuring planes in a role as forest fire and rescue units. Dusty Crophopper, star of the first "Planes" movie, returns in a starring role as he trades in racing around the world for rescue work around the forest. Rated PG, this film does contain some mild bathroom humor and images of planes in danger. The movie opened last Friday at most area movie theatres.
THE LOWRY HOUSE CONCERT SERIES will continue on Saturday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. The Lowry House is located at 1205 Kildare Street in Huntsville. As of the time of this article, artists had not yet been named for the event. Call 256-489-9200 for more information.
OTHER MOVIES that opened last Friday include "Sex Tape", an R-rated movie about a married couple whose private sex tape accidentally goes viral, and "The Purge: Anarchy", an R-rated action movie that looks at what would happen if people were allowed to do whatever they wanted to one night a year with no restrictions. Both movies contain strong language, violence, and sexual situations.
