According to ProMMAInsider's report on Saturday morning, Derrick Lewis is not a big fan of Ricky Shivers. He let that be known on his Facebook page, where he called the challenger to his heavyweight title "cocky." Friday night he backed up his words with his fists, when he scored a third round TKO in the main event at Legacy FC 18. The event took place in Houston, at the Arena Theatre, and aired on AXS TV.
Despite his cardio running low as the fight wore on, and an overall sloppy fight, the crowd embraced the champion, shouting "UFC" after the fight was over.
"The crowd speaks for itself," Lewis said.
When asked following the fight how he managed to push through the fatigue, he responded, "Derrick Lewis was tired, but the black beast wanted more."
With the victory, Lewis improved his record to 9-2. Meanwhile, the loss sent Shivers to 12-8-1, and snapped his two-fight win streak.
In other featured action, Jorge Patino also defended his title against game challenger Derrick Krantz. At 3:07 of the second round he scrambled out of his own danger and was able to slap on a guillotine that forced a tap.
Antonio Banuelos fought to an uninspired split draw against Rafael de Freitas in a fight that saw de Freitas deducted a point for an illegal kick to a downed opponent.
Todd Moore, a veteran of Strikeforce was impressive, scoring a nice ground and pound victory against over matched Charlie Ontiveros late in the first.
