Left 4 Dead 2 review

Game: Left for Dead 2

Console: PC, Xbox 360

Developer/Publisher: Valve Software, Electronic Arts

Genre: First Person Shooter

Number of players: Two players offline, eight players online

Rated: Mature for Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Language

The premise: The Zombie Armageddon is back and this time it takes over the South. Join Coach, Rochelle, Ellis, and Nick as the Survivors in their fight to escape to the city. Making a return is the infected or zombie horde. Making a return is also the Special Infected thus making life even more horrible for the survivors.

Gameplay: This game is a four player, cooperative, first person shooter. The player has a multitude of weapons to choose from. There is also the addition of melee weapons like bats and chainsaws. Making a return is the Versus Mode. It is the player controlled Special Infected trying to stop the player controlled Human Survivors.

The good/bad:
Good: I am glad that they added new types of weapons. They have even included enhanced ammo. For this sequel they have also included melee weapons like golf clubs and baseball bats for times when you run out of ammo.

Bad: They have added more special zombies which may seem like a good thing. This means that there are more irritations toward you and your goal. This also means that there are more chances for your character to be knocked down and you then have to wait for a teammate to help you off the ground.

Good: On the Xbox Live there is extra content to download. It is only one extra level with only two sections but it is worth it.

Tips:
When you are playing with the computer, stick to only healing yourself. The computer has a preset limit where the computer will heal itself.

Melee weapons do not break. Try one out as a secondary weapon and in a jam.

Whenever you get a chance get the enhanced fire ammo, it really helps out in a crisis.

My take:
I really like it when a quality game sequel is done by the same creative team. What I have noticed is that usually for sequels the same people are starring in the sequel. In this game, the setting is the South. Without overdoing it, the characters talk with distinct Southern accents. Just like the last game, I did not see any slowdowns that caused disruption to the game flow. Including clown zombies and hazard material suit wearing zombies shows you that the creators were really trying. It is as if they wanted to give more differences between the stereotypical zombies and their zombies. Having more special zombies means more strategy than simply running and gunning. I was fortunate to download the extra content and was pleasantly surprised. If you are a fan of zombie movies, Resident Evil and the last Left 4 Dead game, you will enjoy this.

My score: 5 out of 5

I loved the first game but really did not enjoy the second game. While there were many memorable moments through out the different campaigns, I feel the no story approach held back the game. I didn't really get the need to keep playing the game through unless I had friends with me. I agree with you with the extra special zombies that will knock you down till team mates come to rescue. I did not purchase the extra content but now maybe I will have to check it out. Great review by the way. Mahalo
