The date commemorates the original Battle of Concepcion fought on October 28 in 1835. A contingent of Texians lead by Jim Bowie and James Fannin defeated a larger Mexican force in what historians call "the first major engagement of the Texas Revolution."
"Celebrate our victory in the first major engagement of the Texas Revolution!" his fundraising site proclaims, and "Help Lee prepare for victory in our modern day Libertarian R[evol]ution!"
Beginning at 12:00 AM on September 28, 2013 the Lee Wrights For Texas Governor 2014 Campaign Committee is rallying Libertarians and all fans of freedom to report for duty and "help make a difference" by donating, making a pledge and joining "our growing grassroots community of common sense citizens dedicated to individual liberty and personal responsibility!"
And while you're at it, sign up to run for office yourself. As Wrights puts it on his Operation Elect Us page, "I want you to run for office with me. Government is out of control at the federal, state and local levels. Run for Sherriff. Run for State Representative. Run for Congress."
Wrights has been a longtime libertarian activist as a writer and editor and as a campaign manager and candidate within the Libertarian Party.
The candidate himself will be in North Texas November 2 where he will kick off his campaign with a formal announcement at Love & War In Texas in Grapevine, a thoroughgoing Texas food and music venue.
Meanwhile, Libertarians and other "common sense citizens" can learn more about Wrights' campaign of "rugged individualists and constitutional communitarians" at his website and catch the latest news at his Facebook page.
(Full disclosure: Garry Reed is a longtime "contributing editor" for R. Lee Wrights' website Liberty For All.)
