TMC reports that Young didn't show up for work this morning. The staff on the show called the stars landlord and asked for them to check on him. The Landlord found him in his apartment dead of what they said was apparently a 'self inflicted gunshot wound.'
Young was a very bright light in Hollywood with a career most young actors would kill for (sorry for the bad pun).
Lee first came on the Hollywood scene with a small part in the TV movie "Johnny Tsunami." Young was soon the star of the Disney series "The Famous Jett Jackson." He did 67 episodes. He also wrote one of the episodes himself.
After appearing on such TV shows as "Scrubs, Smallville, The Guardian and Friday Night Lights," he landed the role of Detective Barry Frost in the TNT hit series "Rizzoli & Isles."
Lee's manager has issued this statement:
It is with great sadness that I announce that Lee Thompson Young tragically took his own life this morning," longtime manager Jonathan Baruch said in a statement. "Lee was more than just a brilliant young actor, he was a wonderful and gentle soul who will be truly missed. We ask that you please respect the privacy of his family and friends as this very difficult time."
TMZ and his manager has labeled his death a suicide.
This is the third death of a young Hollywood actor since Cory Monteith died on July 13, 2013. Also dead are, Lisa Robin Kelly who was featured in "That 70s Show" and now Lee Thompson Young. These actors were all around the same age with Lisa being the most troubled. Robin went from cute Hollywood ingenue to a troubled woman with drug and mental problems.
Young also attend the same high school as often troubled singer Britney Spears.
The official word, which will come from the coroner's office about the cause of death has not been revealed and probably won't be until later this week or tomorrow. A toxicology screen will take several weeks and that's if the ME has reason to do one.
RIP Lee, your fans will miss your amazing talent and stunning good looks. Why does this happen?
