According to Billboard, R&B singer Ledisi has reached the number number 20 position on Billboard’s Adult R&B chart after only two weeks after the release of her first single, "I Blame You" off of her forthcoming album. On November 2, Billboard reported that Ledisi's album, "The Truth" would be in stores and available for purchase on February 11, 2014. The follow up album to her 2011 release "Pieces of Me,'' presents a completely different Ledisi to the world and admitted during her Billboard interview that she dug deeper with this album and is happy with the person that she has become.
“I wanted to go deeper into myself than I have. Before, I’ve sometimes hidden behind other storylines about someone else. When you look at yourself fully, it’s hard. But it’s also rewarding. I feel good about the person I’ve become not just on the outside but inside as well. Now it’s like, ‘You’re pretty hot, girl.’"
And on Sunday November 3, Ledisi proved just how "hot" she is with the performance of her first single off the album live during the BET (Black Entertainment Television) special, "Black Girls Rock." Accompanied by her female dancers, all dressed in black and Ledisi wearing a form fitting black Alexander McQueen catsuit, the high energy, sexy performance was one of the most memorable of the evening.
Ledisi is showcasing a new style of fashion and sound this time around and is not afraid to step out of the box. She took to her Facebook page after the BET Sunday performance and posted a "selfie" that included the message: "Thank you God! Thank you @BET ! Thank you to my entire team! Thanks Alexander McQueen for my catsuit! Thank you to all the people putting me in your box.. I love you but I can't stay there.Thank you everyone who supports my growth and change! My new album "The Truth" 2-11-14! "I Blame You" available now! God Bless you all and thank you so much!"
Ledisi also revealed that there is a definite difference between this album and her past albums stating, "they think they already know me, but they have no idea," she explained with Billboard. "What will surprise fans the most will be 'how open I am, sensual and confident.'
