The No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference is still up for grabs, but it looks like the Miami Heat value rested stars over playoff seeding.
According to Joseph Goodman of the Miami Herald, LeBron James could skip the Heat's game Monday against the Washington Wizards. The goal, of course, would be to get James some late rest before the playoffs begin in the coming week.
Miami currently trails the Indiana Pacers by 0.5 game for the top spot in the Eastern Conference. The Pacers have one game remaining, a road date with the 23-57 Orlando Magic on Wednesday. An Indiana victory in that game would lock the Heat into the No. 2 seed.
There is a chance the Wizards and Heat could meet in the first round of the playoffs. Washington holds a one-game lead on the Charlotte Bobcats for the 6th seed in the East. If the Wizards falter in their final two games, a date with Miami could be looming.
James has played in 77 of Miami's 80 games to this point in the season. He is currently the 3rd leading scorer in the NBA and ranks 11th in assists per game.
The Miami Herald report also lists Chris Bosh as a candidate to rest Monday for the Heat. Dwyane Wade returned from a nine-game absence in Saturday's loss to the Hawks.
