LeBron James, Jesse Jackson slave comment draws 650k views in 3 hours to article, lots of reaction
Jesse Jackson says that LeBron James is a runaway slave to Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavs -- and that 'LeBron James slave' comment by Jesse Jackson is lighting up the web with views and reactions on Monday.
Originally, Jesse Jackson said this about Dan Gilbert's heated open letter about LeBron James leaving Cleveland:
"His feelings of betrayal personify a slave master mentality. He sees LeBron as a runaway slave. This is an owner employee relationship -- between business partners -- and LeBron honored his contract."
As that comment makes the rounds on Monday, folks are reacting on either side -- with some calling Jesse Jackson an attention grabber for his slave comment, while others concur.
In fact, this Cleveland-area reporter admitted the same reaction admist a plethora of other reactions in the wake of LeBron James' "The Decision" special wherein he basically broke up with Cleveland in public.
Controversial writer Jason Whitlock admitted that his article about the Jesse Jackson-LeBron James-slave comment controversy has drawn 650,000 views in 3 hours, obviously a high traffic day for him.
"OK, I now love my column. It's blowing up, 650k in traffic in 3 hours and we ain't hit Happy Hour yet!" Jason tweeted about 35 minutes ago
In the meantime, LeBron James Miami Heat jerseys are reportedly selling like hotcakes as Cleveland still adjusts to their "Native Son" departing the city for South Beach.
"If LeBron wants to go down in the record books with the greats, he should've stayed with Cleveland and brought a championship home," said one Richfield-area worker.
Either way, Jesse Jackson's comments about LeBron James being a runaway slave to Dan Gilbert has obviously struck a nerve on Twitter -- where Jesse Jackson's name is a trending topic as of this writing.
The 'slave' comment is drawing opinions on many different sides.

I am not a fan of the Rev., but I to wondered why an owner was so bitter about a player leaving his team . I think it is an ownership mentalality . I can call the media and tell them that I traded you ( with out inforning you first ) but you can`t leave my team on your own terms . The player fullfiled his contract , he has no obligation to the owner . If there was a good relationship between them he would not have had to wait for a TV special to find out .
what part of "free" agent does ol' Danny Boy not understand?
i get it, ol" Danny Boy probably made some bets that LBJ would stay w/ him in Cleveland that he might not be able to cover, the mob is probably after him now...
Amazing how this parallels the NFL situation between Greenbay and Favre yet that was amazingly not pushed into a racism issue by a racist, preacher-want-to-be who has NEVER BEEN EMPLOYED NOR FORMALLY EDUCATED. HOW ABOUT AN EVALUATION OF WHO OR BEST "WHAT" JESSE JACKSON IS?! WHY IS HE SO READILY QUOTED AND GIVEN AIR TIME. HE IS A NOTHING - A RACIST BIGGOT WHO INSTIGATES WHERE POSSIBLE THEN DISAPPEARS. LET US REMEMBER "DUKE LACROSSE EVENTS" -BIGOTTED RACISM AT ITS FINEST PROPOGATED BY "NON-WHITE". Lebron James did what was best for him and his family, those who do not like his choices need to think of what they would choose to do. If I was offered a better deal I would go with it. He is an employee like most others. Amazing how the slave comment never crops up when its a white person. Hey JACKSON, get your own job and quite profiting from others - BUM!!
Personnaly,I think LBJ should have stayed in Cleveland to create his own legacy. Not go to a franchise that already has a face of the organization and help them win. As far as the Rev. goes,I think that he brought attention to what the underlining factor is (MONEY). The slave owner takes pride in having the biggest and strongest mandingo in the bunch which translate to [MONEY].
Every thing is NOT RACISM until Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton hits the air. Hey Media stop propogating propaganda. I think the Cav's owner and others who make stupid comments should be ashamed. They act like the spoiled rich that they are - Lebron did what he felt was right and I would too. If I was offered a deal more beneficial for me then I would take it. Anyone who sits and judges what these pro's do for a buck need to evaluate themselves - everyone works for the money why else would a person work.
it's funny, no team owner is calling Favre a traitor either. w/ Favre, u have 2 old white guys dividing money amongst themselves, w/ LBJ, u have 1 slave master who believs he owns the person not the contract, that means ol' slave master is out of millions, & LBJ takes his millions w/ him 2 Miami, hence the school girl response.
if Danny doesn't know the rules, he shouldn't play the game.
DON"T HATE THE PLAYER, HATE THE OWNER
if there were more diversity covering the news, we might hear more differing opinions (that's racism on a different topic though).
those who don't believe race plays into every part of American sports lives in THERE IS NO MORE RACISM land.
this is clearly a racist rant by the slave owner, he called him everything except n***er.
Since when did slaves earn $17M Per Year?
Everyone is commenting on something they don't know about. What if Labron had a verbal agreement with the owner? As far as the So called "Rev" goes, he is an idiot, he IS a racist! All he knows how to do is play the 'race' card for monetary gain. We should ignore him, he has no credibility!
Listen.. LeBron did what he needed to do and the Cleveland Cavaliers did not. LeBron was with the Cavs since he was 18 years of age. Like he stated" they watched me develop from an 18 year old boy to a 25 year old man". The Cavs had 7 years to equip LeBron with the help he needed in order to become a championship caliber team. It is basically true that they used LeBron as a slave to generate revenue for the owners, city of Cleveland and state of Ohio. There is no I in TEAM and where was the team when LeBron needed them? Why is it when a player says it's business there's a problem? But when a player is CUT, the organization says "it's business" and there isn't a problem. You want to talk about betrayal??? What about West and LeBron's mother??? The organization knew about that and kept it from him. Where was the loyalty then??? If anything, WEST should have been cut from the jump because that is causing problems within the camp. That could have freed up some money to get James some help!
It is amazing how people want to feel that just because we don't have slave auctions and "white only" signs that racism or inferior attitudes don't exist. I totally agree with Jesse Jackson's comment. He doesn't owe the owner of the Cavaliers or the state of Ohio anything, but there is a sense of "how dare you Black man get "uppidy" and exercise your right to make choices for yourself". The owner has a sense of entitlement, as if he deserves to keep him on his "plantation". It was a crazy situation that I have never seen transpire with any white athelete. I read all these comments about how much money LeBron makes, as if it makes him immune to people with racist attitudes. LeBron deserves to make money just like all the other White athetles and it shouldn't discredit how ignorant and self-centered the owner of the Caviliers and some of the citizens of Ohio are.
slaves don't make $17 million /year, but the issue is not LeBron (obviously he is nobody's slave) the issue is w/ the "slave master" mentality who believes he is owed everything that LeBron is & will become. his, I MADE U, "slave master" mentality is what's wrong w/ his HOW DARE U rant.
old white man "slave master" v young black male "free" agent
For the first time Mr. REV Jesse is absolutely correct, the bottom line was the owner was upset that Mr. LeBron made a decision on his own. He gave the Cleavland 7 long hard years, if the owner wanted to Win so badly than he should had made some changes to have a Championship team(7years) which he did not. So are you saying that Mr. Labron should had stayed there? For how many more years? I know the answer Until he was out of his prime with no Ring.
Than the owner like all of Sports today went on searching for another Buck!!!!!!!!!
If you think that you are not a slave, in Corporate America than you have a problem, come on man look at the comparisons
Cdub/ Philadelphia
That is true, But how much do you think the owner's make!!
This plan for lebron, wade, and bosh to play together was planned 2 years ago and they followed through with it. The way lebron left was wrong. Yea he didn't owe us to stay but he should have given the fans that supported him and loved him more consideration than that bulls**t announcement on tv. I dont blame Gilbert for being mad. In fact the only thing he said wrong was guaranteeing a championship. As for jesse jackson, unless he can put a racist spin on anything you never here from him. He needs to keep racism alive to make himself look relevent. So according to him all the people in Cleveland, including the black community, that feels the same way as Gilbert are all racists and traders to there race huh?
Jackson is a proven racist with an agenda. His agenda is putting as many Franklins in his pocket as he can before he turns toes-up. Why does the media cover his outlandish accusations? Perhaps to incite the backlash of commentary. He is a has-been and cannot accept the fact that the majority of people in the USA have elected an African-American President. Ignore him, his rents, and perhaps he will go away.

Breeze and Como: smart! I like the way you think and share!
Maybe Jesse Jackson should worry about paying for all of his illegitimate children instead of grabbing attention for himself at any chance he gets? Instead of using his notoriety for positive things, he cheapens himself with repeated grabs at headlines such as his. What a joke.
girly-man dan gilbert, was fined $100,000 for his lindsey lohan cry-baby-antics...i hope he can pay back the mob for backing his casino venture while using LBJ as the headliner...or
DAN GILBERT SLEEPS w/ THE FISHES
when will these slave-masters learn people r free, i'm glad LeBron knew he is worth more outside of the crappiest market in the league than 2 continue 2 try & carry that worthless old industrial manufacturing town...
i wonder y the rest of those loosers don't leave, oh yeah, nobody's paying them 2 leave...
Signed Miami Forever
p.s. eff david stearn...
Any time you have a really bad situation. Just add Jessie, and it goes to unbelievable terrible. Everytime good people of all colors fix and forget what Jessie stirs up with his antics and foolish rants. He crawls out of somewhere to build more racial fences. Jessie needs to worry about taking care of his issues and stay out of other peoples business. No one cares what you think Jessie. You've lost your chance and credibility to speak for anyone but yourself.
oh and for the record... Lebron can/should do whatever he wants to do. It's his decision. Dan Gilbert is acting like a spoiled baby and really comes off as a douche bag to everyone across America. Having Jessie chime in and throw around just to get his name out there and build some more racial fences is completely ignorant...But, then again we are talking about Jessie.

Can you imagine being an owner of a pro team in a city where their teams never win? Out of nowhere a basketball team starts to make unbelievable money because of one player, Lebron James. After 7 years, the owner of the Cavaliers is richer than he ever imagined and wants more, much more money. Than his cash cow decides that he wants to leave.
How do you think the owner will respond when the cash cow decides to leave? It would be like being Mike Tyson's agent in his prime or Floyd Mayweathers agent now. All of a sudden, before the Manny P fight, Floyd drops you as his agent. Lebron finished out his contract in Cleveland, but the owner wasn't finished making his money off of Lebron. So what does the owner do. He is so hurt, mad, and disappointed, that he sends the whole world a letter of his frustration.
When slaves didn't do what their masters asked them to do, they whipped them or killed them. Do you think Gilbert was to trying to help Lebron's career or kill it?
