According to a Feb. 27 report from WebProNews.com, LeBron James hooked up his Miami Heat teammates with WWE championship belts as a small token of appreciation for their efforts in helping him notch back-to-back NBA titles.
Shortly after the belts arrived, James posted a pic of his team holding them on his Instagram page.
James also gave the WWE a nice little plug, as he mentioned the launch of the promotion's new WWE Network.
"Always wanted to be the WWE Heavyweight World Champion so today I surprised my teammates with their own for their collection. And by the way it's a Great time to be a @WWE fan with the launch of #WWENetwork #LoveMyTeammates #WWEStandOutAsAKid #StriveForGreatness," James posted on Instagram.
Apparently WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon helped James get the belts in his possession.
"Wanna thank @StephMcMahon for her help with the gifts I gave my guys today! You're awesome!! #WWENetwork #Excitement #StriveForGreatness," James tweeted.
It wasn't revealed if James paid for the WWE belts, or if the promotion gave them to him free of charge. Even if the WWE gave James the belts for free, it's well worth it for them.
The WWE received great publicity for their efforts, and got some much-needed exposure to NBA fans who might not have otherwise given pro wrestling a shot.
James had been looking to obtain the WWE championship belts for several months, as he tweeted last December an open message to pro wrestlers asking for advice on how he could secure them.
"Who do i need to talk to to get one of those World Championship Belt? WWE belt. The real ones," James tweeted.
James received responses back from The Rock, John Cena and several other WWE superstars.
The UFC recently sent Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper a championship belt, so it's possible that the WWE took a cue from that situation with their gift to James.
