Even a hand swipe to the bridge of the nose by Oklahoma City Thunder forward Serge Ibaka couldn’t stop Miami Heat forward LeBron James from being able to ramshackle his way through the defense and finish with a dunk. The actual slam rattled its way into the basket, but what made it more impressive was James being able to maintain his concentration and finish the play.
The aftermath said it all—James was writhing on the floor in pain as drops of blood fell to the floor of Chesapeake Energy Arena. Afterwards, a dazed James headed back to the locker room and passed a concussion test, but X-rays were forthcoming to determine the extent of the damage.
The play occurred in the fourth quarter, but the Heat were handily in control of the game as they blitzed the Thunder 103-81 in a matchup of Eastern and Western Conference powerhouses. James finished the game with 33 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
"He goes up and gets hit in the face and then goes back up and finishes,” said James’ teammate Chris Bosh. “He's the biggest, strongest athlete in the league."
