A LeBron James return to the Cleveland Cavaliers is being rumored again as the NBA gets closer to the All-Star break. According to a report from Yahoo! on Thursday (Jan. 31), the Rudy Gay trade points to how the end of the super teams is coming. Though the Memphis Grizzlies had one of the best records in the NBA, the front office felt it was necessary to trade away salary before a hefty luxury tax penalty was placed on the team.
The Miami Heat will face a similar problem next season, meaning the trio of James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade might not last as long as they would have hoped. All three players have early termination offers that could be taken in the summer of 2014. That would leave the Miami franchise pretty decimated if they lost all three players, but it is expected that Wade will finish his career down there no matter what.
The group of talent that is starting to form in Cleveland is another reason that the LeBron James rumors might start to make sense. Kyrie Irving, Tristan Thompson, and Dion Waiters should be nicely groomed by the time the 2014-15 NBA season arrives, giving James a perfect set of new teammates to pursue a championship near home. That could turn into the perfect legacy for him and the Cleveland Cavaliers fans would likely forgive him if he can get that elusive ring for them.
