LeBlanc vs. Woodard in heavyweight showdown in Bay St. Louis

Time: Saturday Jan 22, 2011 at 8PM

Place:  Bay St. Louis Hollywood Casino in Mississippi

Boxing promoter Les Bonano has put together a feast for fight fans on Saturday night in Bay Saint Louis.

A look at the talent on the card shows a promising night for fans.  For example, heavyweight Bobby O'Bannon vs. John Brown in a six round fight...sounds awesome.  And the main event, which features Will MacIntyre (40-4-1) of Covington, who holds an IBA light Heavyweight title, versus Blake "Candyman" Prevost of Lafayette Louisiana, should create ten rounds (or less) of fireworks.

But over on the West Bank most eyes on the girl they call "Ginger", although her real name is Sydney Leblanc. Ginger who splits her time training and working as a bouncer and cook at the local strip club DC's lounge is in the hunt in women's heavyweight division. Ginger Leblanc vs. Tiffany Woodard promises to be a women's heavyweight fight for the ages. Leblanc, who trains at POWER MMA with accomplished boxing trainer Toby Wattigney, has been in training for the fight for more than a year. Woodard who is ranked as a top ten contender in the female heavyweight division (she is 4-4) is traveling with her coach from North Carolina to the big show.  Leblanc has prepared hard for the fight and has even acquired a pink steel cup signed by the dozens of training partners and supporters that she has on the West Bank in New Orleans.

"I am going to the number one headbuster in the south," jokes Leblanc, who is truly one of the most humble and hardest working people at her home gym.  "I've been training really intensely with Mr. Toby, he is the most dedicated boxing trainer I've ever had and I've had a great team around me for this training camp and I've learned a lot."  By team, Ginger is referring to professional boxers such as Jamond Wop Bourgeois, who himself is fighting on the card on Saturday vs. Slidell's Vincent Burkhalter, as well as professional MMA fighters Gabe Wood; and Charlie "Superstar" Rader, who himself is 1-0 in professional boxing.

Bourgeois (Wop), who also hails from the West Bank is ready to make his return to the ring as well after a tough loss in Florida a few months back.  Leblanc is as excited about Wop's fight as her own, "he's really helped me be a part of the team and learn the sport.  I want him to get a big win preferably a knock-out."

Ginger's old mentor and ultra accomplished boxer of fame on HBO Glenn "The Road Warrior" Johnson will be flying from Miami to see the fight.  The fight is currently sold out with a high demand for tickets from many of the intriguing matches on the card. Bonano has done a great job at creating a fight that sells itself...a real skill in the promotions world.

See you at the fights!
