Leavitt legacy still alive – bill renaming Legacy Parkway moves ahead

Just days after hearing unanimous testimony from Davis county citizens and the Davis County Commission in opposition to renaming the Legacy Parkway in honor of former governor Mike Leavitt, the Senate Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee voted 4-1 in favor of sending the SB177 to the floor of the Senate. Senator Osmond, committee chair, advised those present that since public testimony had been taken earlier that the committee would go directly to the bill.

Without any explanation of the bill or committee discussion, Senator Stuart Reid, a committee member and the bill’s sponsor, then made a motion to report the bill out with a favorable recommendation. The committee concurred.

Senator Jerry Stevenson from Davis County was absent so he did not go on record either for or against the name change. He arrived ten minutes later just in time to hear the presentation of the next bill.

Leavitt’s legacy, SB177, now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
