Leaving your Chihuahua home alone can be traumatic

Most people have two income families and kids that are gone to school or work, leaving the pet home alone. That is usually a pleasure for Mr. Tom Cat but can be quite disturbing for some of our dogs. What can we do, as we can’t be home with them 24 hours a day?  We may feel bad leaving them alone and miss them terribly yet someone has got to make the donuts!

We live in a very busy world, not only going to work but school, shopping, visiting, out to dinner, to the movies and other places where the dog(s) are not allowed. Most dogs have very little to do when we are gone, unless they are the napping type (like mine).  Some dogs can suffer from boredom, stress or separation anxiety.

Dogs with these types of issues will find a way to let you know how very unhappy they are through some destructive behavior. You may come home to find your furniture, rugs, favorite shoes or pillows all chewed up, may vomit, urinate or defecate in the house. Some dogs may eat everything in sight while others will eat nothing and become anorexic.  Your dog may decide to groom him/her self out of boredom until they are raw. Other dogs may express themselves verbally by howling, whining and barking (which will be a problem if neighbors are nearby.
