The annual cherry blossom festival is in honor of the 102 year old gift of cherry trees from Tokyo, Japan to Washington DC as a symbol of friendship. The festivities run for four consecutive weekends and host events such as fireworks, sake tasting, and even a kite festival.

Over 30 Washington DC hotels have packages for these festivities, some packages include metro passes, cherry blossoms products, and cocktails. More than 90 restaurants are participating in the Cherry Picks Restaurant Program and will be serving special spring menus throughout the festival weeks.

The United States has over 4,300 cherry blossom trees through out the country. Cherry blossoms can be found in Washington DC, Philadelphia, Newark New Jersey, Portsmouth New Hampshire, and San Diego California. In Japan Cherry Blossoms are extremely symbolic, in WWII cherry blossoms were used as motivation and have since then been used to inspire "Japanese spirit".

cherry blossoms are a breathtakingly beautiful site and will be the first sure sign of spring, hopefully getting America out of the "polar vortex".
