Tired of the hectic work week and rush of the city? If so, take a short trip down Mopac to check out the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. Admission is free this weekend and the remainder of January, so take this opportunity to relax and rejuvenate. There aren’t so many flowers this time of year; however, they do have an intriguing art gallery, cozy gift shop, and delicious treats in the onsite café. Bring your hiking shoes for roaming around the many trails, meet your friends for lunch outside, or grab a book or magazine to read on one of the several benches lingering throughout the trees. The Wildflower Center makes for a wonderful getaway with family or friends, as well as a calming escape if you want to spend some time on your own. While you’re there, be sure to make the climb to the top of the observatory for a great view in this beautiful weather we’ve been fortunate to have lately. Also, if you have an extra coin, you just might want to toss it in the Wildflower Center spring and make a wish. You never know – it just might come true…
The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is located off of south Mopac and LaCrosse. For hours and more information, visit their website here.
Stop to say hello to the turtle family in the entrance pond (they may look like statues, but I assure you they are real), and have a great weekend!
