So you are tired of being cooped up in the house and want to get out for some fresh air. Try snowshoeing and cross country skiing, they are not only great exercise but they are fun. Select ski areas in New Hampshire and in Vermont are offering free lessons and use of the trails and equipment this coming Saturday, January 11 and this is a chance to learn about the sport, We are supposed to have warmer temps so it will be a good day to be outdoors.
Where to go in New Hampshire:
Great Glen Trails in Pinkham Notch is participating in this event and will be offering free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing to first time skiers and snowshoers. This includes an introduction to the sport with a free 45 minute ski/snowshoe lesson, use of equipment and time on the trails. This opportunity will be available from 1:00 to 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 11. Great Glen has magnificent views and trails. Great Glen is in Pinkham Notch (Route 16), a few miles north of the Route 302/16 intersection in Glen.
Jackson Ski Touring, in Jackson New Hampshire, is known widely as one of the finest cross country and snowshoe venues in the east. Jackson Ski Touring will be hosting a free snowshoe tour and will give participants free snow shoe rentals. The event at Jackson Ski Touring will take place at 10: AM on January 11 and will be guided by Peter Minich, an author, naturalist and expert guide. Space for this tour is limited and reservations should be made by calling 800-927-6697. Jackson Ski Touring is in Jackson, New Hampshire, (Route 16), a few miles north of the Route 302/16 intersection in Glen. Space is limited so reservations are required.
Bretton Woods Nordic Center is another participant. Located on, and around, the grounds of the historic and magnificent Mount Washington Hotel, In Bretton Woods, the Nordic center will offer snowshoeing and cross country events and will provide free introductory lessons for cross country skiing from 1 to 4 PM on January 11. Lesson begin every half hour from 1 PM to 3:30 PM. Bretton Woods will operate on a first come first served basis.
Where to go in Vermont:
Vermont calls its version of the event Winter Trails Day and it, too, will be held on January 11, this coming Saturday. Free opportunities for learning snowshoeing and cross country skiing will be available at eleven locations throughout the state and will include instruction and equipment rental.
