Vera at Fantastic Fibers is a knitting teacher and a yarn retailer in Palmer, Alaska, a short, scenic drive out of Anchorage. With classes that range from just learning for first time knitters and scheduled intermediate classes, and classes arranged for advanced knitters, and yarns that range from $2.50 a ball (Sugar and Cream) to $140 an ounce qiviut, there is literally for everyone at every level. Since she teaches to both children and adults, Fantastic Fibers in Palmer makes knitting a family event! This February, classes (as always) promise to be a real treat!
A few of Vera’s classes being offered in the coming weeks are informative as well as fun. For basic learn to knit classes, Fantastic Fibers will have a February class on the 5th, 12th, and 19th from 10-11am. This $30 class will teach you how to “cast on, knit, purl, change colors, increase and decrease, cast off” and possibly more.
Do you want to learn to cable? On February 5, try out her cabled, fingerless mitts class and learn to knit, “Linda Kay’s Yummy Mummy Wrist Warmers.” This $20 class is being held next Saturday and Sunday (February 5 & 6,) from 1-3pm both days. Are you not yet ready to learn to knit cables? Try her Basic Fingerless Mitts class on Saturday, February 12 from 11-1, then come back the next day on the 13th from 1-3.
Are you ready to try knitting lace? For $10, come in and learn to read a chart and knit the Mermadida Bookmark from 1-3pm on February 12.
If the South Central winds have been hitting you too hard, the Yarn Harlot’s Pretty Thing Cowl may be up your alley and you can learn to knit it for $20 (plus pattern and materials) on Saturday and Sunday, February 19 & 20 from 1-3pm.
Knitting socks on circs (knitting 2 socks on two circular needles) isn’t hard with the help of a dedicated teacher. Vera will have you knitting socks in no time if you sign up for a class for February 19 and March 6. Class fee is $35 plus materials.

On Wednesday, plan to be out here early because they are open from 11am to 4:30 pm, and Saturday from 11am to 5pm.
