Learn how to be your pet's First Responder

Foothills Animal Shelter in Golden had such a great turnout for their first Pet First Aid class they are having a second one on Saturday, November 5.

According to Jennifer Strickland, Director of Community Relations for the shelter, "Pets, just like children, are at greater risk of death or injury from preventable accidents than any other causes. First Aid skills can help save your pet's life!"

The American Red Cross provides the classes. The American Red Cross says that Pet First Aid classes give pet owners the confidence and skills necessary to tend to unexpected emergencies until they can get their pet to a veterinarian. Many Red Cross chapters across the country offer classes with hands-on training in Pet First Aid procedures. Here is a brief overview of what pet parents will learn:

  • pet CPR
  • rescue breathing
  • evacuation and emergency preparedness
  • treating physical injuries, poisonings, environmental emergencies and more
