Learn how to bow hunt through the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s (ODFW) bow hunting course. It is called the Oregon Bowhunter Education Course, and is one full day of hands on instruction. The program teaches the fundamentals of safe and responsible bowhunting.
Course topics include:
- Introduction to bowhunting.
- Wildlife conservation.
- Safe and responsible bowhunting.
- Know your bow and arrow.
- Preparing for the hunt.
- Hunting from elevated stands and other bowhunting techniques.
- Shot placement and recovery techniques.
- Outdoor preparedness.
This course is not required to bowhunt in the state of Oregon, but those who take the course are statistically shown to have better success than those who do not. It will help give the beginning archer the confidence he or she needs to harvest big game right from the start.
There is a $10 fee payable to ODFW. Participants must posses their own bow and arrows and shoot them during the course. Contact the ODFW for course schedule online at Oregon Bowhunter Education.
