Learn about spine wellness at free seminar

Do you suffer from back pain? Every year, spine pain leads to loss of work and an increase in doctor visits, and above all, it makes it difficult to enjoy daily life. It’s estimated that up to 80 percent of adults experience pain in their spines at some point in their lives. It could be the result of improper posture, excessive sitting, incorrect lifting techniques, injury, or a variety of other causes. If you’d like to learn more about back pain and how it can be prevented, you can attend a free, informational seminar on Thursday, March 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. The seminar takes place at the YMCA offices, 1177 W. State St., Boise.

Spine experts from St. Luke’s will discuss common causes of back pain, how to treat it, and how to avoid it. In most cases, back pain can be resolved on its own, or with mild medication, stretching, and rest. However, a little knowledge and prevention can go a long way. Don’t take your good health for granted.

This seminar is part of a community wellness series put on by the YMCA and St. Luke’s, repeating on the second Thursday of each month. The topic for April will be joint wellness, while May’s topic will be stroke prevention and risk factors.

The seminar is free, and you don’t have to be a member of the YMCA to attend. However, space is limited, and you must register. In order to do so, contact Mary Biddle-Newberry, Director of Disease Prevention and Management, at (208) 344-5502, ext. 276. Or send an email to mary.biddle@ymcatvidaho.org.
