WISCONSIN RAPIDS: This Saturday Feb. 27, from 12-3pm, the "Paper City" will be the site of a free public forum on hemp and medical cannabis at the McMillan Memorial Library at 490 East Grand Avenue in Wisconsin Rapids. The "T.H.C. Tour" or "Talking Hemp and Cannabis Tour" will bring various state supporters of hemp and medical cannabis to Wisconsin Rapids. The focus of this event is to teach the community about the past, present and future of hemp and cannabis in Wisconsin.
Event organizers note that Industrial hemp may soon again be grown in Wisconsin if Assembly Bill 206 is passed this session by the full legislature. The bill passed out of committee at a hearing on January 21. Exhibits and a discussion of the history and uses of hemp will help attendees learn about the versatility of this plant. The discussion will answer questions including, What if hemp can provide food, clothing, shelter, fuels and energy? and Could hemp really help turn Wisconsin green and help heal our local economy?
Event organizers say that as the current legislative session comes to an close, support for the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act (AB554/SB368) continues to build as more state residents become aware of it. They say since the 1970's, the race has been on to duplicate nature with synthetic marijuana medicines and since the 1980's marijuana based medicines have been available for use by doctors and patients statewide. They say this shows that whole cannabis is medicine and that synthetic substitutes are not as effective.
Attendees will be able to hear more about the bill as well as imoportant background information on medical marijuana including the latest studies, and the longstanding federal obstruction of research that has left U.S. researchers far behind those in other nations including Britain, Spain, China and Israel.
Medicinal uses of cannabis will also be discussed by a number of activists who have used cannabis to treat their conditions and found not only relief unattainable with conventional drugs, but also a return of a quality of life. The different conditions that cannabis has been shown to help as well as those included in Wisconsin's proposed law and those already in effect in 14 other states will also be explored. Event organizers hope this forum will help clear up some of the misunderstandings about the safety and efficacy of medical canabis.

Event organizers say attendees can expect to not only learn the details of and where the Jacki Rickert Medical Marijuana Act is in the current legislative process but, most importantly, find out how they can get involved in making this choice legal in Wisconsin.
