Learn about Heirlooms at Lilac Festival with Charlie

Ahh spring in Vermont. It's loaded with tulips, green grass, and flowers, especially lilacs. To celebrate the season, Shelburne Museum is holding their annual lilac adn gardening day on Sunday, May 15th. Not only can you come and enjoy and learn about the hundreds of blooming lilacs (and buy some as well), I'll be giving a talk on heirloom vegetable gardening at 12:30pm, too. So come and get a whiff of spring and learn about these beautiful plants, and heirloom vegetables, at this fun annual event. Here's the details.

What: Heirloom Vegetable Talk at Lilac Festival
Where: Shelburne Museum Lilac and Gardening Day, Shelburne, VT
When: Sunday, May 15th; 10am to 5pm. Heirloom Vegetable Talk at 12:30pm
Details: The Museum grounds are in bloom with over 400 lilacs in 90 varieties and a full day’s happenings from walking tours to gardening demonstrations to presentations by gardening experts. Plus, activities for all ages.

Come early! The first 200 visitors receive a free lilac seedling thanks to the generosity of Horsford Gardens and Nursery. Limit one per family.

  • Walking tours of the Museum’s 400+ lilacs
  • Meet representatives from UVM’s Horticulture Farm and Master Gardener program
  • Garden demonstrations, including planting vegetables, flowers, and native trees; composting with worms; and making kitchen and bath products with lilacs
  • Woodworking, pottery, and soap-making demonstrations
  • Live music throughout the day
  • A bird walk through the Museum’s back property
  • Kids’ activities including games, art and garden projects, fairy houses, and a scavenger hunt
  • Vermont Association of Recyclers’ Childrens Theater performance, Think Before You Throw!
  • Special presentations in the Meeting House by Vermont gardening experts Len Perry (spring-flowering bulbs), Charlie Nardozzi (heirloom vegetable gardening), Rick Peters (daylilies), Judith Irven (historic gardens), and Ron Krupp (garden vignettes…)
  • Shelburne Museum lilacs, dayliilies, and peonies for sale.
