March 14th is Learn about Butterflies Day. These delicate insects with colorful wings have fascinated children and adults over the centuries. Holidayinsights.com offers the following recommendations:
“In keeping with the spirit of this very special day, celebrate by learning a little more about the wide range of butterflies. Buy a Butterfly identification book, so you will know what butterflies inhabit your yard. Importantly, learn how to attract them to your yard. You can do this by planting flowers that they like.”
A great place to learn more about butterflies is at the Franklin Park Conservatory which hosts the annual Blooms and Butterflies exhibit, running this year from March 9 – September 21. The popular exhibit showcases tropical flowers and foliage with hundreds of butterflies from more than 100 species from around the world.
Daily Activities:
Butterfly Releases: 1 p.m. & 3 p.m.
A Conservatory staff member or volunteer will release butterflies daily in the Pacific Island Water Garden as they share fun facts and provide a close-up look at these beautiful creatures.
