During the December 10 American Country Awards ceremony in Las Vegas, LeAnn Rimes gave a stirring vocal tribute to the late Patsy Cline. Dressed in a gorgeous, floor length, white gown with plunging neckline and train, LeAnn Rimes stood alone on stage, with photos of Patsy Cline on slideshow in the background.
The television viewing audience enjoyed the feel of traveling back in time to a black and white broadcast, added for dramatic effect. LeAnn Rimes, whose vocal style had been compared to Patsy Cline’s from the time Rimes was a young girl, performed short segments of some of Cline’s most well-known songs.
LeAnn Rimes began with “Leavin’ On Your Mind” and segued into “Walking After Midnight,” Cline’s most famous song, “Crazy,” and finally, as color began to seep back in for the viewing audience, LeAnn Rimes ended with “Sweet Dreams.”
So lost in the magnificence of the moment was LeAnn Rimes, that she couldn’t even maintain the final note as she choked with emotion. The tribute obviously meant a great deal to LeAnn Rimes, and the live audience responded to her efforts with hearty applause.
In a touching final moment, LeAnn Rimes blew a kiss to Patsy Cline’s photo, reminding country music fans everywhere what a great loss was suffered when Patsy Cline died at the very young age of 30.
