Keyboard lovers may have been wondering if they will ever see another keyboarded Motorola Droid device again, but leaked images discovered by 9to5Google on Sunday point to an answer of "Yes." The images, which first appeared on China's Twitter clone Weibo, allegedly show off the next-generation Motorola Droid 5, with its slide-out hardware keyboard.
The QWERTY slider is missing some buttons, though: Based on the images, it seems that Motorola has dropped the capacitive buttons of its predecessors. On the other hand, it appears that wireless charging, NFC and a "shockproof" water / dust resistant design are all in the mix.
The much-loved laser-cut five-row keyboard from the Droid 4 appears to remain. While it's not possible to precisely determine the screen size, it appears to be somewhere in the 4.3-inch to 4.5-inch range.
Verizon 4G LTE logos appear in the images, pointing to it definitely being a Droid of some type. Any other details remain to be unveiled in another leak, or an official announcement. We'd expect it to sport hardware equivalent to either the Moto X (mid-range) or Droid Ultra (high-end).
