On Friday, photos and a video of the suspects in the Steubenville, Ohio, rape case appeared on the Internet, thanks to activist hacker group Anonymous. The leaked evidence may result in the two men accused of raping a young woman last August not receiving a fair trial.
The photo shows the two suspects, Ma'lik Richmond and Trenton Mays, carrying their alleged victim by her wrists and ankles. The two men, both 16, were members of the Steubenville High School football team.
The leaked video shows members of the football team joking about the alleged rape and assault.
Lawyers for both men were quick to point out the leaked photograph could tamper the jury pool and compromise the ability for a fair trial. Further complicating the issue is the close ties between the police, prosecutors, and the school where the alleged students attend.
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine's office is investigating and trying the Steubenville case to avoid any conflicts. It is not unusual for the Attorney General's office to prosecute crimes where conflicts of interest may be present.
