Leah Remini will testify in the harassment lawsuit against the Church of Scientology and its controversial leader, David Miscavige. The former member of the Church of Scientology has been outspoken against the church and may provide damning testimony against them.
The lawsuit was filed by Monique Rathbun who has never been a member of Scientology however she is married to Marty Rathbun who was a former member of the church and one of their top executives. She claims the church used private investigators and intimidation tactics to harass her.
Rathbun’s attorney, Ray Jeffrey confirmed that Remini would be testifying in the lawsuit on the Scientology watchdog website, “The Underground Bunker.” According to the website, Leah Remini is scheduled for her deposition in Los Angeles on October 15.
Jeffrey revealed that Remini will testify to tactics that the church and Miscavige have fought hard to keep secret. One of the tactics Remini is expected to testify to is the “iron fist” Miscavige uses to keep church members in line.
On October 14, former Scientology spokesperson Tommy Davis is expected to also be deposed. His deposition is set to be taken in Texas.
When the multi-million dollar lawsuit was filed in August, Monique Rathbun was also granted a temporary restraining order against David Miscavige. The restraining order prevents him from using surveillance or any other means of harassment against the Rathbuns.
The lawsuit alleges that, “She [Monique] has been subjected to numerous, aggressive attempts to intimidate her. She has been targeted at home, at work and anywhere else that she happens to be.”
“She has been harassed, insulted, surveilled, photographed, videotaped, defamed, and humiliated to such a degree as to shock the conscience of any decent, law-abiding person.”
During a segment of “Dancing with the Stars” on which Leah Remini is currently appearing, she stated, “The church is looking for me to fail so they can say to their parishioners, ‘Look what happens when you leave.’ They’re waiting for me to fail.”
Leah Remini last tangled with the church when she reported David Miscavige’s wife Shelly missing. The Los Angeles police department has since closed that case. However, the Church of Scientology took to its blog to condemn Remini.
“Creating this unnecessary burden for law enforcement was even more irresponsible given the entire episode was nothing more than a publicity stunt for Ms. Remini, cooked up with unemployed, anti-religious zealots who blog on the fringe of the Internet.”
