Former Scientologist Leah Remini could testify to numerous aspects of how the Church of Scientology is run in upcoming deposition in a lawsuit filed against the church and leader David Miscavige. The lawsuit alleges that the church at Miscavige’s direction utilized harassment, intimidation and other unsavory tactics to control its members and those who have left the church.
Questions have been asked if Leah Remini will testify about such high profile Scientologists such as Tom Cruise and Kirstie Alley. Ray Jeffrey replied, “Who knows what may come up.”
Monique Rathbun filed the lawsuit, and it was her attorney, Ray Jeffrey who called Remini to be deposed. Jeffrey explained why Remini’s testimony could be crucial to their case.
“We are having to prepare for a hearing on October 18”, Jeffrey stated. “That hearing is about the leader of Scientology, David Miscavige’s claim that he shouldn’t be made to appear in Texas [because he has no dealings there].”
Monique and her husband Marty Rathbun contend that David Miscavige controls the international church dealings basing their argument on the time when Marty Rathbun was a high level Scientologist.
Jeffrey stated, “But his [Miscavige’s] attorneys have argues in court that we have very stale evidence because it goes back a number of years. There are two things that we want to try to establish.”
“One is that he does in fact control all aspects of the various Scientology corporations, so that this operation in Texas against our clients would not have occurred unless he was involved. We believe that Ms. Remini can shed some light on the subject that in fact, he does control things, as she left the church very recently.”
“Secondly, Miscavige’s attorney has claimed in court that Mr. Miscavige is uninterested in our client. I believe Ms. Remini will have testimony that in fact Mr. Miscavige is very concerned about.”
When asked about what other information Remini’s deposition would cover, Jeffrey said, “I don’t want to speak for her, as to what exactly she’ll say. Who knows what may come up. Certainly it will into her experiences in the church.”
