After becoming a new dad, Ryan Garcia wanted to set an example for his daughter. He said he wanted her to live by the motto of ‘We Before Me,’ so he came up with an idea to do a random act of kindness every day for a year.
“I am hopefully going to provide my daughter with the best life possible,” Garcia said. “So I want to instill in her the notion of giving back and giving to others.”
Garcia began his blog 366 Random Acts, where he posts about the random act he does every day. He said he made a list of random acts the day before he started the project, but he likes to get requests because he believes it’s more meaningful.
One of the random acts he said he enjoyed most was giving out free hugs, even though he didn’t think he’d be giving out more than a few.
“'Who wants to hug a random guy?' is what I thought, but people were very welcoming” Garcia said.
The act that got the most response on his site though wasn’t even his. Garcia said one of his wife’s students was inspired by what Garcia was doing and gave his allowance to a homeless person to buy food.
