A leading medical journal has published findings that indicate taking multivitamins is a waste of money. According to a Dec. 16 article in the NYTimes, five doctors at the Annals of Internal Medicine have decided that vitamins have not been indicated to prevent disease or death. In some cases, according to this study, they can actually cause harm. The only vitamin supplement that is still being considered as a helpful supplement is vitamin D, and that is only a consideration.
The vitamin industry is a very profitable business, and Americans spend tens of billions of dollars on supplements each year. It could be that this is wasted money, according to this newest finding.
There is one advantage of taking vitamin supplements that may not be studied in this test. Most people will quickly admit that they have more energy and feel much better when taking vitamins. The improved appearance of hair and skin might also be worth the price of the vitamins.
This is one study, but it is a very important medical journal at that.
