The Louisville Zoo has closed Wallaby Walk-About temporarily. The exhibit is among the prettiest and most versatile at the park. It is designed with aboriginal art and Australian native shrubs (which the Wallabies can eat) that give you an authentic outback feeling.
This is due to a sick Wallaroo named Little Mook. Named after his father Mook Sr. Little Mook has a heart condition and Zoo keepers have to give him special medicine several times a day. They often put it in his banana.

The Kangaroo is known by many terms. Among them; Wallaby, Wallaroo, Marsupial and bouncing Bigfoot. They are originally from eastern Australia. Kangaroos range from 20-50 lbs fully grown. They eat grain, timothy hay, some plants, and fruit. They can go an amazing 2-3 months without water!
Kangaroos can jump an amazing 20 feet!
Kangaroos breed like crazy. Almost all of the Kangaroos in the zoo have been bred in captivity. Why hop a plane for Aussie; when every 6 months you have a new Joey.

The newest addition to the Zoo, is a girl Joey; named Ellie Mae. She is gorgeous. It’s of no wonder why the Kangaroos are among the most picked animals that get to travel for shows. Keepers take kangaroos to the capital, festivals and shows on occasion.
It is unclear as to when the exhibit will re-open. When it does, you will want to pay Little Mook and Ellie Mae a visit. Click the Louisville Zoo link below for details.
