I would like to thank Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook for the following quote:
“Done is better than perfect.”
Hey all you perfectionists and procrastinators out there. Listen to this very smart lady! There isn’t anything that will ever be perfect. Did you hear me? NOTHING.
So, why do so many of us hesitate and say “I cannot hand this in yet, I know there is something more I can do.”
Of course there is always more.
Here is a way to understand why you need to be perfect and why you procrastinate: Often there was a lot of judgment sent your way when you were a kid. Maybe you have a sibling who was ‘the golden child’ and you never were able to get into that well yearned for spotlight. Maybe you had a parent who would frown and say nothing other than an A+ was worth bringing home from school. Maybe you fell flat on your face in a dance recital when you were five or seven and now you just want to hide in the corner when the music comes on.
You know the Nike mantra, “Just Do It.” Go for “good enough” and I would bet that excellent shows up.
And if someone as smart and well educated as Ms. Sandberg gives you the green light to get it done…. well get it done!!!
