You know what happens to most resolutions that are to begin on December 2nd? They fall apart in less than a month.
A very crafty entrepreneur said she is going to start an in-town fitness company only taking yearly memberships. She knows it will be a winner because after the first month she is removing all the treadmills, exercise balls, and weights and changing it into a champagne and vodka bar!
HOWEVER, if you start your commitments NOW by the time the New Year rolls around you will have put some discipline into place and you will be rockin’ and rollin’ while everyone else is playing catch up.
Let’s start with some work habits you can begin right now:
- PICK UP THE PHONE: the email treadmill can be changed. Only answer emails that need a quick “yes or no” reply. If there is discussion needed call the person. You will get things done faster and smarter this way.
- STOP the GOSSIP: If someone wants to tell you a juicy tidbit ask this question first: “What do you want me to do with the information?” and then simply WAIT for them to answer. It will cut the gossip by three quarters.
- TAKE a BREAK: research shows that we cannot listen or think clearly for more than 45 minutes. So, take a break to be brilliant. Stand up, look out of the window, listen to music, and grab a glass of cool, clear water. Then get back to work. You will think better and be more agreeable.
- STOP COMPARING: you may have been measured by your siblings as a kid, or by your classmates in school. GIVE IT UP. When you spend your life comparing yourself to others you waste precious time that you can be training your brain for being even better than you are. If you must compare, do it to yourself and keep making agreements to do everything just a bit better.
