All leaders ready at the starting line? Time to sprint to success! It is the official start of the fall-winter season and we have at least till Thanksgiving to make “it” happen.
Just about every business in this country knows that this is the time to see the profits soar and productivity of employees hit new highs.
It is also time for children to get their new school year in gear and college students hit the books once again.
So what does this funny word Koyaanisqatsi have to do with anything?
In the Hopi language it means LIFE OUT OF BALANCE.
Here is a warning for the rest of the year: once we start to run and forget to stop, we end up over-stressed and undernourished; not so much in food requirements, but in emotional and mental ways.
We forget to “smell the roses”, we forget to “listen to the silence”, we forget to breathe!
The biggest causes of stress at work and at home come from continued conflict and much of the conflict stems from little or no downtime.
We all need to learn to practice safe stress and take the time to take a walk in nature, sit and listen to the sounds of the earth; we need to just be.
Leaders who make a difference are the ones who encourage their staff to really take that break in the afternoon; not for coffee, for quiet. Put on headphones and listen to music. If classical is your preference, Mozart is calming. Listen to something unusual for you, get a chanting tape or one with just the sounds of the ocean.
