Did it again, did you?
Swore you would hold your tongue the next time that dingbat in the next cubicle started to shout at her husband on the phone.
You got up and went to get coffee thinking about what you would LIKE to say to her, yet you kept your cool.
So, what happened when you returned to your desk?
You blew it didn't you?
You heard her tell another colleague who was standing for an afternoon break what a jerk her husband was and you just couldn't resist.
You leaned into her space and said with a voice of authority “Maybe YOU are to blame. And maybe you should just stop talking to him at work. You are loud, offensive and I am offended.”
Then you jumped up to get another cup of coffee, or rather, you just wanted to get away.
When you called me for a coaching session you sounded dejected and began to blame yourself. “For what?” I asked and all you could say is, “I should have ignored her.”
Let’s look at this for a minute. Yes, you could have ignored her for the umpteenth time. That would have been the pattern we are working on, the AVOIDER. (Pattern Aware Quiz here)
Tune in tomorrow for the better way.
