"Lead Me" by Sanctus Real is one of those songs whose words have grown on me so much that I kept searching for it when my husband and I drove to Chicago. When I finally found it on XM/Sirius' Christian channel #63, I was happy to sing along to my favorite parts.
Lead me with strong hands. Stand up when I can't. Don't leave me hungry for love. Chasing dreams, what about us?
Yeah, that's real. And when I told my BFF about the song, it's no surprise that she'd heard of it and loved it too -- even to the point of writing down the lyrics.
Show me you're willing to fight. That I'm still the love of your life.
It's no wonder this song resonates with women, especially, and perhaps lots of men, too.
The first few times I heard it, I thought it was all simple and nice and milquetoast, about a guy staring at a pic of his wife and kids, singing about how "awesome" everything in our Christian lifestyle is -- the kind of stuff some staid believers think we're supposed to say.
I know we call this our home. But I still feel alone.
I appreciate the fact that not only could a man recognize his wife's feelings of loneliness and isolation, but also admit to his charge as a father and how much that responsibility brings him as well, and how he looks to God to lead him.
I'm working hard, I tell myself they'll be fine. They're independent. But on the inside, I can hear them saying "Lead me with strong hands..."
Excellent song. I should probably download it instead of just searching for it on satellite radio.
