Lea Michele under fire for sexy Cosmo photos ahead of Super Bowl performance

Glee star Lea Michele, who will perform at Super Bowl XLV, is being slammed again by parents for a racy magazine photospread.

[Editor's note: Michele sang America the Beautiful at the 2010 Super Bowl pre-game festivities in Dallas on Feb. 6, 2011 (see video at left). Christina Aguilera sang the national anthem and the Black Eyed Peas performed at half-time.]

Michele, who sports a sexy low-cut black dress on the March 2011 cover of Cosmopolitan magazine, is being criticized for setting a bad example for her young fans.

Parents Say Lea's Racy Pics Send Wrong Message

On Feb. 4, parents complained to Fox News: “I think Lea Michele is sending the wrong message. She plays such a ‘good girl’ on Glee and a lot of kids look up to her persona. Then she poses very provocatively on two magazine covers which makes my almost-13-year-old son very confused and offended.

"I find it frustrating as a parent who is trying to teach right from wrong to their kids and then you have things like this happen which is showing middle-schoolers things like sex sells and all that goes along with that.”

Said another mom:

“It’s irresponsible to be using an adult who represents a minor dressed in provocative clothes. I think Cosmo is now taking advantage of the raucous GQ caused with their ‘Glee’ cover and hoping to cash in on the press that got.”

Meanwhile, Lea has always maintained she leads a wholesome, healthy lifestyle, and doesn't smoke, do drugs or party like many young Hollywood stars.

Glee Cuties Slammed After Racy GQ Photos

This isn't the first time Michele has come under fire. In October 2010, Lea, 24, and her co-star Dianna Agron, also 24, were criticized by the Parents Television Council for posing in a series of sexy photos for the November 2010 issue of GQ.

In a statement, the PTC called the provocative photos "pornographic pedophilia." They said:

“It is disturbing that GQ, which is explicitly written for adult men, is sexualizing the actresses who play high school-aged characters on Glee in this way. It borders on pedophilia. By authorizing this kind of near-pornographic display, the creators of the program have established their intentions on the show’s direction. And it isn't good for families."

'I Don't Smoke, Do Drugs or Party'

Lea, who is dating actor Theo Stockman, insists she lives a monastic lifestyle due to her hectic work schedule.

“I love to have fun, but I never did drugs," says Michele. "I’m proud of that. Acting always came first.

"This show would be a huge pressure on someone who wanted to rebel and who wants to party, but I don't have those needs or wants.

"The Glee schedule is relentless: 14 to 16 hours [a day], Monday through to Friday. These days I have one glass of wine and I'm completely gone."

Lea, who reportedly lost about 10 pounds last year thanks to her strenous Glee workouts, a vegan diet and yoga, says she finally feels attractive -- something she didn't always believe.

"Glee has made me feel beautiful," she says.

I say Fox News found two mom to say something negative. Form what I have read at other site people think this is ridiculous. She is 24 she should not have to present herself outside of glee as a teenager. Plus the message she is sending in her words are positive messages for young people. She is confident in her body, she is driven, doesn't do drugs and prefers to be in a relationship instead of dating around.

These people complaining about Lea Michele are the ones who idolize and celebrate Sarah Palin and her promiscuous daughter, Bristol. Lea Michele is an entertainer. She's no different than a professional athlete. These stars aren't asking you or your kids to idolize them and they aren't responsible for teaching your kids about morality. So if you don't like what they do, don't watch their show. Turn the channel. What a bunch of baby morons you are.

Here's a comment from my mom: "Wow, she looks smokin" hahaha. These moms really need to chill out, I'm sorry. The majority of the Glee viewers are 18+. what are your kids doing picking up these magazines in the first place, yeah..real nice parenting there! Lea Michele is such a beautiful woman and I look up to her for doing things like this. She doesn't owe anyone an apology either, Dianna and Lea had no reason to apologize for the GQ magazine but they did it anyways and I love them for it because they put others before them but that apology was not necessary at all, no one should ever apologize for doing something they love. Get the f*ck over it!!((:

Wait, why is that mom letting her 13 year old son read Cosmo??

  • Anonymous 1 year ago

Amen. Fox found the 4 parents in the world who have no clue what parenting is about and then lumped them into all mothers-99.9% moms do not believe this so get over it

These people need attention and thats all it is. Lea Michele is and adult and a human being. She can do what ever she pleases. The two magazines she has been posted in are adult ones so there should be no problems because your children shouldnt be lookin at them if your so concerned. Celebritys shouldnt be idolized and thats the problem. Parents need to teach their childern that they are just like any ordinary person but their job is to entertain.

I love Lea Michele. It's heartening to hear from her that she doesn't do drugs, doesn't drink excessively, she's happy with her body, and is in a healthy relationship. All of that plus her talent and work ethic make her a pretty good role model in my eyes. Women will always come under fire for how they represent their bodies. From one 24-year-old to another, rock on Lea!
