Lea Michele and Cory Monteith were a couple when Monteith tragically died of a drug overdose earlier this year. On Dec. 12, 2013, Michele made an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and spoke about surviving the loss of her love, who passed away on July 13, 2013 in a Vancouver hotel room.
The singer and actress, 27, who appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening before scoring a role on the hit television series Glee, admitted to the talk show host that it has been an "rough year," Us Weekly reported. That seems like an understatement given what she has been through. Grieving is never easy, and celebrities like Michele are forced to grieve in public.
Cory Monteith, Lea Michele's costar and real-life boyfriend, passed away due to an overdose of alcohol and heroin. He was only 31 years old. Lea Michele confided to Ellen that she went into hiding after the actor's death. Good friend Kate Hudson kindly allowed the grieving actress to spend time at her home, and Michele said it was helpful to spend time away from her own home, which contained memories of Monteith.
They also talked about the day that the relationship between Leah Michele and Monteith was confirmed on Ellen's television show. Michele said:
"I remember when he came home that night, he kind of puffed out his chest and he was like, 'I talked about you on 'Ellen' today.' I was so happy. He's such a private person, and I literally lived every day of my life feeling like the luckiest girl in the whole world. I just thought he was the greatest man and so at that moment, that memory, it means so much to me."
After the death of Cory Monteith, Lea Michele made her first public statement about the loss of her boyfriend on Twitter. Check out the video on the left of this page for more information.
