Le Tastevin Fine Wines is a superb wine shop located in Old Town Alexandria. It is an appropriate name —a tastevin is small wine tasting vessel that often hangs by a chain around the next of sommelier or other wine professional -- as Le Tastevin’s manager, Bryan Smith, has been a sommelier at Woodward Table and Bisto Bis.
Le Tastevin takes pride in hand-selecting world-class wines and craft beers. Though the physical layout Le Tastevin is similar to other wine shops, wines racked along the walls and a few displays in the middle of the shop, what makes it different is the quality of it staff and it philosophy of selecting unusual, hard-to get quality wines
Recently they poured white and bed Luberon wine from the mountainous Southern Rhone region. Rhone reds are traditionally made from the GSM grapes: Grenache, syrah and mover. Luberon reds can add up to 20% white wine, typically Rousanne or Marsanne. White Luberon, in addition to using Marsanne and Rousanne include Clairette blanche, Grenache Blanc, and Ugni Blanc.
In addition to the Luberon's, Le Tastevin poured the hard to find White Knight California Viognier’s, which consistently achieve ratings in the high 80’s and Low 90’s. With price point in the $10-15 range, both the Luberons and the Viognier are excellent values.
Le Tastevin’s staff is extremely knowledgeable about wine and has an easy manner about sharing their expertise with customers. This is definitely a recommended stop for wine lovers when in Old Town.
Le Tastevin is located at 1309 King St, Alexandria, VA 22314, just a few blocks from the Alexandria Old Town Metro.
