Authorities have only shared a handful of specifics so far and the situation continues to be quite fluid. So far it has been said that three people were shot when a man walked into Los Angeles International Airport, Terminal 3, and started shooting.
NBC Los Angeles indicates that one TSA agent has been killed, and some outlets are reporting that the shooter was killed as well. At the very least, authorities have said that the shooter has been contained. Another TSA agent was wounded, and there have been reports that others had some minor injuries.
At this point the airport is at a standstill, as there are thousands of people at the airport who are still being cleared out with planes full of passengers sitting on the tarmac. There likely will not be flights leaving for some time, and the freeways surrounding LAX have been shut down. Though authorities believe the shooter was alone, the airport is being fully searched to ensure there is nothing more happening.
The FAA has said there is a ground stop in place for LAX at the moment, meaning flights slated to leave for LAX are currently being held on the ground at their departing airport. As anybody familiar with the airline industry knows, this will have a significant impact on flight travel throughout the country for much of the rest of the day, more than likely.
Stay tuned for further details regarding the LAX shooting, as authorities will be holding a press conference shortly.
