Early in the afternoon of Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, there have been reports of shots fired at the Los Angeles International Airport. CNN reported that parts of the airport have been evacuated after reports of shots being fired inside of terminal three.
UPDATE: Reports state that the gunman walked up to a checkpoint in terminal three at LAX and opened fired at a TSA agent.
A ground stop is in place at LAX with no flights coming in and none taking off.
The incident began around 9:30 a.m. on Friday morning in terminal three according to airport spokeswoman Nancy Suey Castles.
The entire area has been roped and blocked off around LAX, and there are reports of "several injured."
Robert Perez is a passenger who was preparing to fly on Virgin Air. He was resting in the terminal when he said that everyone became panicked and chaos erupted.
"I heard a popping sound, and everybody was diving for cover," Perez told the station. "The TSA said there was a shooting in the terminal and evacuate the building."
At least 100 people came down a staircase. "Everybody started to panic," Perez said.
Snipers and other law enforcement have been placed around LAX and on rooftops after reports of the shooting.
