The LAX shooting leaves one TSA agent dead and several people injured, including at least one more TSA agent. A gunman opened fire in LAX terminal three. The gunman was shot and wounded while on the tarmac then taken into custody, but later 'unconfirmed reports' say the shooter has also died, according to Sheppard Smith on Fox News live on Nov. 1.
All flights going to LAX have been stopped, the FAA reports that no flights will go in or out of LAX until further notice. The gunman opened fire in terminal three, reports the New York Daily News on Nov. 1. The Daily News reported originally that the shooter was shot in the leg and taken away.
According to Sheppard Smith, Fox News anchor, there are unconfirmed, but multiple reports, that the shooter is now dead. The details are trickling in after such a chaotic morning at LAX
Witnesses are calling into Fox to report that they were sitting on the tarmac in their plane in line for take-off when they were told that the plane was not leaving.
They were told to get off the plane and to go through screening again. After that they would be put on a bus and transported away from the area. Other witnesses said that when the shots rang out they ran away from the sound of gunfire and ended up running out onto the tarmac.
The shooter was inside a secure area when he opened fire. It is now being reported, but not confirmed, that he is "connected with the TSA," but it is not known if he is an employee now, or he had been a previous employee. It is believed that the shooter opened fire on the TSA agents who were screening people. The building emptied out immediately and “all the people that were waiting in line to be screened” ran through security which actually breached security.
Another witness said that he was waiting to go through the TSA security and people ran out an emergency exit and onto the tarmac. This witness saw one TSA agent, who was “shot in the ankle” he told people, “I am O.K.,” he also said to keep going and that he would be fine.
This witness was then tackled to the ground and hand cuffed as authorities thought he was the shooter. They kept him on the ground for about 10 minutes and then they let him go.
The shooter did not breach security, he was in a secure area when he started the shooting. After the gun fire went off, many people breached security, they all ran to get away from the gunfire. One woman talked to a reporter at LAX and she had one shoe on. She was in the middle of being screened by the TSA to board a flight when the shots rang out. She ran with one shoe on.
Witnesses complained that the TSA agents ran away with them, ahead of the people in some instances. The shooter is in custody and authorities believe there are no other gunman and authorities "do not believe there is anyone else involved." There was only one gunman. The bomb squad is sweeping LAX at this point to exercise caution. While it was chaotic when the gunfire started, most people are calmly doing as they are asked.
The shooter is described as a young white male, with a rifle-type gun, who was seen calmly walking through terminal three. This is what witnesses report seeing of the man just before the shooting started. Witnesses said they heard about 10 gunshots and others are reporting hearing 20.
The traffic around LAX is piled up and the authorities expect it will be for some time until things get back in order in LAX. People were taken from all over LAX and bused to the International terminal which is elbow to elbow at this time.
LAX is shut down to all arrivals and departures until further notice. This is coming from the FDA, via Fox News live reporting by Sheppard Smith. A ground stop program at LAX is delaying flights all across the country after all traffic headed for LAX is stopped.
New information that just came into Fox News is that the "gunman is connected with TSA," it is not known if he works for TSA still or he used to work at TSA. Reports are saying the gunman has died, but this is not confirmed.
