When you acquire a lawyer to represent you in a case, you should, in general, keep your mouth shut unless you are directly asked a question or you are on the witness stand. A key example is in the case of rapper Chris Brown.
A funny thing happened on the way to the latest progress report in court on Thursday. The hearing stemmed from the Chris Brown - Rihanna felony assault case.
As you may recall, in 2009, Chris Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault of fellow singer and then-girlfriend Rihanna. He was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. The assault took place at 12:30 a.m. on Feb. 8. 2009, shortly before the 2009 Grammy Awards ceremony.
During the hearing, Mark Geragos, Brown's lawyer requested permission for Brown to go on an upcoming world tour. Geragos also discussed Chris' community service requirement.
When the judge asked a question about the tour schedule, Brown began to answer, but was shut down quickly by his lawyer. Mark Geragos stepped in quickly and said "I don't dance; you don't talk."
The judge took it all in stride, laughed and responded by saying, "We would like to see you dance, Mr. Geragos."
It's unclear if Gerago dances with his wife. Mark Geragos is a high-profile criminal defense attorney, who has represented a number of celebrities, Brown, Michael Jackson, actress Winona Ryder, politician Gary Condit, suspended NASCAR driver Jeremy Mayfield. He also represented Susan McDougal and Scott Peterson.
