Lawyer billed client for sexual encounters

It's one thing to engage in a sexual relationship with a client. It's another thing entirely to engage in a sexual relationship with a client and bill them for your time. Over a six-month span, Minnesota divorce attorney Thomas Lowe billed his client for his legal and bedroom services.

The 58-year old lawyer in Burnsville engaged in a sexual relationship with a client over six months between Sept. 2011 and Mar. 2012. Lowe would arrange meetings with the woman for sex, then bill her for a generic "meeting" or "drafting memos."

It wasn't until Lowe's own marriage was in trouble that he ended the sexual relationship and dropped the woman as a client. The woman later attempted suicide over the ordeal. While she was in the hospital recovering, she told people of the tryst between the herself and Lowe.

The Minnesota Supreme court ruled against Lowe on Jan. 10, 2013. He has been suspended indefinitely and barred from practicing law for 15-months.

According to the Pioneer Press, Lowe had previously been in trouble for purchasing cocaine from a client in 1997.
